Dr. St. Jean focuses on measurable outcomes and clear action plans so patients feel safe, supported, and empowered. Dr. St Jean received his Bachelors of Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a pre-medicine focus. He then went on to study at Life and National University, graduating as a board certified chiropractic physician. He continued his post-doctoral study with the Carrick Institute of Functional Neurology, along with various Functional Medicine programs including Dan Kalish, Datis Kharrazian and more. Dr. St Jean is a dedicated learner and continues to pursue course work in his specialty areas to ensure patients receive the most cutting edge, up to date clinical interventions available
Functional Medicine is a patient-first approach that looks for the root causes of symptoms rather than only treating them with pills or other medical interventions. Instead of a one-size-fits-all treatment strategy, we use targeted, individualized data extracted from a detailed medical history, targeted lab testing, and treatment responses to nutritional and lifestyle therapies aimed to address why symptoms began and how to fix them. It’s especially helpful for chronic or complex problems that have not been helped with traditional interventions.
At Orthomed Integrative Health Center our Functional Medicine consults combine with advanced testing with hands on clinical expertise. Our goal is to help you understand why you’re feeling unwell and empower you with a plan to heal naturally.
Functional Medicine helps by:
Finding underlying drivers of anxiety, depression, gut dysfunction, female hormones, chronic inflammation, sleep disruption, autoimmunity, etc
Giving an individualized plan (diet, sleep, stress tools, supplement protocol, and follow-up labs) rather than generic advice.
Offering telehealth for counseling/coaching so patients get both root-cause care and symptom relief.
First visit (Initial Functional Medicine visit):
Warm welcome and review of your intake form & medical history.
Deep listening: symptoms timeline, sleep, diet, mood, stressors, environment.
Focused physical & neurologic exam when in-person, or health-mapping during telehealth.
Discussion of likely drivers and recommended next steps (labs, diet, supplements, lifestyle changes).
Clear short-term plan and scheduling of follow-up. Typical “first-visit” includes 25-45 min.
Follow-ups:
Review labs and response to interventions, refine plans, add targeted therapies, and coordinate with your other providers. Typical follow-ups are 25-30 minutes.
Functional Medicine commonly treats or helps improve:
Anxiety, panic, chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation
Depression, Fatigue, Sleep Disorders
Digestive issues (IBS, Bloating, SIBO)
Female Hormone Imbalances (perimenopause, postmenopause, adrenal dysregulation)
Thyroid Dysfunction (Hashimoto’s/Graves/Hyper/
Autoimmune and chronic inflammatory conditions (supportive care)
Neurodevelopmental Disorders (ADHD, Autism, etc.)
Headaches/Migraines
Chronic Pain, Post-Concussive or Autonomic Symptoms (when combined with physical medicine)
Metabolic issues Pre-Diabetes, Diabetes, Dyslipidemia)
We order targeted, evidence-informed lab testing to look for root causes, not shotgun testing. Examples we commonly use:
Basic panels: CBC, CMP, thyroid panel, fasting labs (glucose, lipids, A1c) and many more based on individual need
Hormone testing (salivary or serum) when indicated
GI testing if gut symptoms (stool PCR, SIBO breath testing)
Micronutrient panels, methylation/genetic panels, toxin screens when clinically warranted
We interpret labs in the context of your symptoms and only order tests that will change management. We do not require excessive lab testing and often start treatment with only bloodwork. Many clinicians in the field require $2,500-$5,000 worth of testing before seeing a patient. This is complete mis-management of care and builds unnecessary fear and fiscal stress for patients. You will not experience this when working with our team.
Supplements are used when indicated and as part of a comprehensive plan (diet, sleep, stress, movement). We provide all supplements at whole-sale cost for our active patients. We prefer high-quality, evidence-backed supplements at therapeutic doses for limited, defined periods, then reassess. If an over-the-counter or professional formula is recommended, we’ll explain the purpose, dose, expected timeframe, and costs upfront. We avoid blanket “pill every patient” approaches like many practitioners in functional medicine do.
Initial Functional Medicine Visit (telehealth): $489 [cost is rolled into care plan if patient signs up]
Cost covers the prep time before your consult, the direct patient-doctor time during your consult and analysis and case work post-consult. It’s important to keep in mind, each case requires extensive analysis before and after you meet with Dr. St Jean, hence the fee structure.
